I’m Bissirat, the founder and creative director of Mexeb, based in the UK. With a career that’s spanned NGOs, art curation, research, events, and children’s book illustration, I’ve always been passionate about creativity, community, and storytelling. Through my journey, I realized that the positive side of Africa—its excellence, its creativity, and its beauty—needs to be voiced much louder. Mexeb was born out of a desire to celebrate and share that richness with the world. I believe that art, fashion, and craft are powerful forms of communication — you can say so much through what you wear, carry, or gift. Mexeb’s collections are crafted with care and meaning, drawing inspiration from the depth and diversity of African heritage and excellence. Each piece is a visual statement, a wearable story that connects the wearer to a broader narrative of cultural richness and originality. While Mexeb began with silk and natural fabric accessories, our vision is to expand into a wider range of design-led pieces that continue to amplify this message.
